See Us for Safety in Pet Surgery, from Spay and Neuter to Orthopedic Repair

Pet Surgery | Animal Care Unlimited, Columbus, OH

Surgery in veterinary care can be necessary for various reasons: pets swallow something they shouldn’t, a tumor has developed, an injury requires corrective surgery, or to spay and neuter pets. Animal Care Unlimited offers skill and experience in veterinary surgery, including procedures for birds and other exotic pets.

Setting the Standard for Pet Surgeries

Surgical Suite

As an AAHA® accredited veterinary hospital, each patient enjoys the highest standard of care for surgery and anesthesia. Whether we are performing a routine spay or neuter, or a more complex procedure, your pet’s comfort, safety, and welfare is our priority.

Prior to administering anesthesia, our veterinarians examine the patient and perform diagnostic blood work to identify any possible risks. Throughout the procedure, our skilled technicians monitor patient respiration, blood pressure, heart rate, and blood oxygen levels. This monitoring is continued until the patient is alert and fully recovered from anesthesia.

Laser Surgery

We offer the latest technology in veterinary surgery today: laser surgery. With this technology, a laser beam replaces the traditional scalpel. The laser light efficiently vaporizes living tissue while it seals blood vessels, capillaries, lymphatics, and nerve endings. This results in several benefits to our patients, including:

  • Less bleeding due to cauterizing effect
  • Less pain and swelling
  • Sterilizing effect reduces risk of infection
  • Rapid recovery time

This technology allows our veterinarians to perform surgery more efficiently and with less risk to our patients.

Spay and Neuter Surgery

Neutered Cute Kitten

We recommend most pets be spayed or neutered during the first year of life for positive health benefits, enhanced behavior, and to avoid unwanted pregnancies. In dogs and cats, the benefits of this approach are numerous.

Benefits to Females

  • No more heat cycles
  • Reduced risk of mammary gland tumors, ovarian and uterine cancer
  • Less desire to roam
  • Promotes a longer, healthier life

Benefits to Males

  • Reduces or eliminates spraying and marking
  • Less desire to roam
  • Less aggressive behavior and fighting
  • Eliminates risk of testicular cancer
  • Decreased risk of prostate disease
  • Promotes a longer, healthier life

Some small mammals benefit from spaying and neutering as well, such as rabbits and ferrets. Our Columbus, Ohio veterinarians offer guidance regarding this procedure at each pet’s initial wellness exam.
